Genesis 2:15-17 Romans 6:23 Revelation 1:18
In 1912, as the Titanic was sinking, Wallace Hartley and his fellow musicians continued playing to calm the panicking passengers. Even as death approached, they chose to face it with dignity, playing. Survivors recalled hearing hymns like “Nearer, My God, to Thee” until the very end. Their final performance wasn’t just music—it was a declaration that death, though powerful, doesn’t get the final word.
That courageous stand shows us something powerful about facing our greatest enemy.
💡 Did You Know? When the Titanic was discovered years later, Wallace Hartley’s violin was found in its case, strapped to his body. He had secured it close to his heart, perhaps knowing it would be his last performance. Like this precious instrument, death was never meant to be part of God’s original composition for humanity—it was an alien note that disrupted His perfect symphony of life.
The Bible first mentions death in Genesis 2:15-17 not as a natural part of life, but as a warning—a consequence of disconnecting from the Source of all life
Think about it like unplugging a lamp:
- The lamp was designed to shine
- It only works when connected to power
- Unplugging it doesn’t just dim it—it goes dark
- The problem isn’t the lamp—it’s the disconnection
That’s exactly what happened with humanity. We weren’t designed for death. It’s an intruder, an alien presence that disrupted God’s original score. But like those musicians on the Titanic, we can face this enemy with hope because we know it’s not the end of the song.
🔥 Personal Reflection:
- How does seeing death as an “intruder” rather than “natural” change your perspective?
- When have you felt disconnected from your Source of life?
- What “music” are you playing in the face of life’s challenges?
🙏 Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us that death was never Your plan for us. Like those brave musicians who played in the darkness, help us live with courage knowing that through Jesus, death’s power is broken. Thank You for reconnecting us to Your eternal life through Christ. In His name, Amen.
