Genesis 3:1-5 Revelation 12:9 Revelation 13:2-4
In 1925, con artist Victor Lustig pulled off an incredible scheme—he “sold” the Eiffel Tower, not once, but twice! By faking government papers and taking advantage of people’s greed, he tricked wealthy scrap metal dealers into believing that France’s iconic landmark was secretly up for sale. This bold trick reminds us of an even bigger deception that started in the Garden of Eden.
Did You Know? The serpent in Eden used the same tactics modern con artists use today: creating doubt (“Did God really say…?”), denying consequences (“You will not die”), and offering a shortcut to greatness (“You will be like God”). These aren’t just ancient tricks—they’re the same lies repackaged for every generation.
Throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, the same deceiver is at work. The serpent that tricked two people in a garden later appears as the dragon deceiving the whole world (Revelation 12:9). Think about how the deception escalates:
In Eden:
- Questioned God’s Word: “Did God really say…?”
- Contradicted God’s Warning: “You will not die.”
- Promised Divine Status: “You will be like God.”
Today:
- Questions Biblical Truth: “Is that really what it means?”
- Denies Consequences: “You make your own truth.”
- Promotes Self-Divinity: “You are your own god.”
🔥 Personal Reflection:
- Can you think of times when old lies have appeared in new forms today?
- How has God’s truth protected you from deception?
- What “too good to be true” promises is the world offering you today?
🙏 Prayer: Heavenly Father, in a world full of sophisticated deceptions, help us recognize the ancient lies in their modern disguises. Thank You for Your Word that exposes falsehood and Your Spirit that guides us into truth. Keep us grounded in Your unchanging reality. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
