Genesis 1:1

This week we explored the book of Genesis—and discovered that it doesn’t just start the Bible, it sets the foundation for understanding everything else.

Here’s what we uncovered:

🌴 Sunday – “The Mango Principle” (Trinidad)

In a quiet church by the sea, Pastor Miguel used a mango to explain how God reveals big truths from the very beginning. Just as our first taste of mango helps us recognize the fruit later, God’s “first mentions” in Genesis help us understand deep truths—like love, sin, and salvation—through the whole Bible.

🕊️ Monday – “Love’s First Mention” (World War I)

Cher Ami, the one-legged carrier pigeon who flew through bullets to save 194 trapped soldiers, reminded us of the first time “love” is mentioned in the Bible—when Abraham is asked to give up his son. It’s a powerful picture of God’s love, later revealed fully in Jesus’ sacrifice.

⚽ Tuesday – “Where Is the Lamb?” (Soccer & Substitution)

In the 1999 Champions League final, Manchester United was losing until a last-minute substitute, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, turned the game around. That’s what Jesus did for us. Isaac’s question, “Where is the lamb?” in Genesis 22 points to Jesus—God’s perfect Substitute who took our place and secured our eternal victory.

🎻 Wednesday – “Death: The Unwanted Intruder” (Titanic)

As the Titanic sank, musicians kept playing “Nearer, My God, to Thee.” That moment reminded us: death isn’t part of God’s design. Genesis shows how death entered the world, but it also points forward to Jesus—the One who will end death forever.

🎩 Thursday – “History’s Greatest Con” (Victor Lustig)

Victor Lustig “sold” the Eiffel Tower—twice! But Satan’s deception in Eden was even greater. He questioned God’s Word, denied the consequences, and offered fake godhood. Genesis reveals the original lie—and warns us that the same trick still works today if we’re not rooted in God’s truth.

🔥 Personal Reflection:

  • Which story this week helped you see the Bible in a new light?
  • How did understanding “first mentions” in Genesis change the way you read Scripture?
  • What will you do differently now that you see how God laid the foundation from the very start?

🙏 Prayer: Father, thank You for revealing so much in the very beginning. Help us not just read Genesis, but understand how its truths echo through the whole Bible. Give us courage like Cher Ami, faith like Abraham, and wisdom to recognize truth when the enemy lies. May Your Word continue to shape our lives from start to finish. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
