“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot… you say, ‘I am rich,’ and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.” — Revelation 3:15, 17

Young King Josiah was fixing up God’s temple. Workers were cleaning, repairing, and restoring what had been neglected for years. Suddenly, the high priest Hilkiah came running with a dusty scroll in his hands. “Your Majesty! Look what we found hidden in the temple – the Book of the Law! God’s Word that’s been lost for generations!” Josiah took the scroll and began reading. His face went pale. His hands started shaking. Then he tore his royal robes and fell to his knees, weeping.

“What’s wrong, my king?” his servants asked in alarm. “We’re in terrible danger!” Josiah cried. “We thought everything was fine! We thought we were God’s people, safe and secure. But this Book shows we’ve been breaking God’s commands for years without even knowing it! Our ancestors hid God’s Word and forgot it. We’ve been living like pagans while thinking we were faithful!” The king’s advisors were shocked. “But Your Majesty, the temple is still here. We still offer sacrifices. We still call ourselves God’s people. Surely we’re not that bad?”

Josiah held up the scroll with trembling hands. “That’s exactly the problem! We look religious on the outside, but we’ve lost what matters most – a true connection with God! We’ve been protecting our buildings, our traditions, our rituals – but we forgot to protect our hearts!”

He sent messengers to the prophetess Huldah. Her message was sobering: “God’s anger burns because His people have abandoned Him while thinking they’re still faithful. Disaster is coming.” But there was hope. Because Josiah’s heart was tender and he humbled himself before God, there was still time to change. The young king didn’t waste a moment. He gathered everyone – from the greatest to the smallest – and read God’s Word aloud. “We must protect what truly matters!” he declared. “Not just our buildings or our reputation, but our minds and hearts!” He destroyed every idol. He removed every false priest. He got rid of everything that competed with God for people’s hearts.

The people renewed their covenant with God that very day. An old woman who witnessed it all said with tears, “We were like sleepwalkers – thinking we were awake but actually asleep! We were protecting worthless things while the most important thing – our relationship with God – was dying.” Today, Jesus speaks the same warning to His church: “You say you’re rich and don’t need anything. But you don’t realize you’re spiritually poor, blind, and naked!” Like Josiah, we must protect what truly matters most – not our comfort, our traditions, or our reputation – but our hearts surrendered completely to Jesus.

Did You Know?  The devil is fighting for control of your mind right now! The Bible says both the seal of God and the mark of the beast are received in the forehead – which represents the mind. That’s why Jesus warns the Laodicean church (that’s us!) about being spiritually blind while thinking everything is fine. Ellen White wrote: “The church is being converted to the world” instead of the world being converted to the church. We must wake up before it’s too late!

🔥 Personal Reflection:

  • Are you like Josiah’s people – looking religious on the outside but drifting from God on the inside?
  • What are you protecting – your comfort and reputation, or your relationship with Jesus?
  • If Jesus read your heart today like Josiah read God’s Book, what would He find?

🙏 Prayer: Dear Jesus, forgive me for thinking I’m spiritually fine when I might be asleep like the Laodiceans. Like King Josiah, let me see my true condition. Show me anything in my life that competes with You for my heart. I don’t want to protect worthless things while losing what matters most – my connection with You. Wake me up! Tear down my idols! Help me surrender completely to You before it’s too late. Clothe me with Your righteousness, give me spiritual sight, and protect my mind from the enemy’s attacks. In Your name, Amen.
