“Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?” — Genesis 18:25 (NIV)
Daniel sat in the marketplace, tears running down his face. An old prophet named Samuel sat beside him. “Young man, what troubles you?” Samuel asked gently. “I don’t understand God anymore!” Daniel cried. “Everyone says God is loving. But I also hear He judges and destroys evil people. How can He be BOTH?” Samuel smiled. “Let me tell you about the village judge.”
“There was once a very kind judge in a village. Everyone loved him because he was patient and gave people chances to change. One day, a cruel man came and started hurting people – stealing from the poor, beating children, making everyone scared.” “The judge talked to him kindly. ‘Please stop,’ he said. ‘I’ll give you time to change.’ But the cruel man just laughed and hurt MORE people. The judge waited. Gave him another chance. And another.”
Daniel leaned forward, listening. “But the man got WORSE! Finally, the crying villagers begged the judge, ‘Please! Our children are scared! Old people are being robbed! You must stop him!'” Samuel looked at Daniel seriously. “Now tell me – if that judge did NOTHING, would he still be loving? Would he be good?”
Daniel thought hard. “No… because if he truly loved the innocent people, he would protect them.” “EXACTLY!” Samuel exclaimed. “That’s who God is! He is loving and patient – giving people many chances. But He is also the Supreme Judge. He loves innocent people too much to let evil continue forever!”
“So… God’s judgment is actually part of His love?” Daniel asked slowly. “Yes! If God let evil people hurt others forever and never stopped them, would that be loving to the victims? Would that be fair to innocent children being hurt?”
Daniel’s eyes grew wide with understanding. Samuel continued, “God is so holy and pure that He cannot pretend evil doesn’t matter. Sin is like poison that destroys everything. When God judges evil, He’s protecting the innocent and keeping His creation safe!”
“And here’s something amazing,” Samuel added. “God doesn’t play favorites! When God’s own people Israel did evil, God judged THEM too! Remember Achan? God is fair to everyone – rich or poor, powerful or weak.” Daniel nodded, feeling peace wash over him. “But the most wonderful part?” Samuel said with a smile. “While God must judge sin, He also provides a way to SAVE sinners! That’s why He sends prophets to warn people. That’s why He gives time to change. God’s goal isn’t to destroy – it’s to save everyone willing to turn from evil!”
Daniel stood up, his face bright. “Now I understand! God judges BECAUSE He loves. He loves the innocent too much to let evil win!” Samuel hugged him. “That’s right, son. God is both perfectly loving AND perfectly just. And both work together to make things right.”
Did You Know? The Bible uses three powerful word pictures for God – King, Judge, and Warrior. All three show the same truth: God will not let rebellion against His good ways continue forever! Just like a good king protects his people, a fair judge stops criminals, and a strong warrior fights for the weak, God does all three to keep His universe safe and good!
🔥 Personal Reflection:
- Why is it important that God is both loving AND a fair judge?
- How does knowing God will stop evil one day help you when you see bad things happening?
- What would the world be like if God never judged evil or stopped people from hurting others?
🙏 Prayer: Dear God, thank You for being a perfectly fair Judge. Thank You for being patient with people who do wrong, giving them chances to change. But thank You also for loving innocent people enough to stop evil when it goes too far. Help me trust that You know the right time to show mercy and the right time to bring judgment. When I see evil in the world, help me remember that You see it too, and You will make everything right one day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
