“Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token.” — Joshua 2:12 (NKJV)

Rahab looked seriously at the two Israelite spies. “I helped you because I believe in your Creator. Now I need you to help me.” “What do you want?” one spy asked. “Promise me that when your army conquers Jericho, you’ll save my family – my father, mother, brothers, sisters, and everyone in my house.” The spies saw the fear and hope in her eyes. “We promise. Life for life, kindness for kindness. But you have to keep your part of the deal.”

“What do I need to do?” Rahab asked. One spy pulled out a scarlet rope. “Tie this red rope in your window – the same window you’re letting us down from. When we attack the city, this rope will be the sign to save everyone in your house.” Rahab held the red rope, studying it carefully. “This little rope will save us?” “Yes, but listen carefully,” the other spy said. “Everyone you want to save must be inside this house. If anyone goes outside, we can’t protect them. And you can’t tell anyone else about our plan.”

As Rahab helped them escape through the window, she thought about something strange. This red rope reminded her of stories she’d heard about the Israelites in Egypt. “Wait,” she called softly to the spies. “Didn’t your people put blood on their doors in Egypt to protect them from death?” The spies smiled. “Yes! You’re right. That night, everyone who had blood on their door was saved, but those who didn’t have the blood died. The Creator passed over the houses with blood and protected the families inside.” Rahab understood. “So this red rope is like that blood?”

“Exactly. The blood in Egypt showed faith in the Creator’s protection. This red rope shows your faith in His promise to save you.”

After the spies left, Rahab tied the scarlet rope firmly in her window. Every day she looked at it and remembered the promise. Every day she made sure her family stayed close to the house. “Why do we have to stay here?” her brother asked one day.

“Because,” Rahab explained, “this red rope is our protection. Just like the blood protected the Israelites in Egypt, this rope will protect us when the Creator’s people come to conquer Jericho.” “It’s just a rope,” her sister said doubtfully.

Rahab smiled. “No, it’s not just a rope. It’s a sign of faith. It shows that we believe the Creator’s promise to save us.” When Jericho finally fell, the red rope saved Rahab’s entire family, just as promised.

Did You Know? The red rope (scarlet cord) was like the blood on the doors in Egypt during Passover. Both were signs of faith that protected families from destruction. Just like the Israelites had to stay inside their houses with blood on the doors, Rahab’s family had to stay inside the house with the red rope. Both stories show that we are saved by faith, but our faith must be shown by our actions – staying where the Creator promises protection.

🔥 Personal Reflection:

  • What is the significance of the scarlet cord that Rahab hung in her window compared to the Passover blood?
  • How does your faith show in the way you live and the choices you make?
  • What “red rope” has the Creator given you as a sign of His protection and salvation?

🙏 Prayer: Dear Creator, thank You for the story of the red rope that shows how You protect those who have faith in You. Help me understand that just like Rahab had to tie the rope in her window and keep her family inside, I need to show my faith through my actions and stay close to You. Thank You for Jesus, whose blood is like the ultimate red rope that saves me from spiritual death. Help me trust Your promises completely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
